How To Remove Acrylic Paint From Leather Shoes

When acrylic paint dries, it becomes difficult to remove as it makes a bond with leather. These stains become impossible to be removed by water.

You have to go through the whole process to remove them with the help of simple wipes you can not get effective results. Well, most stains can be removed with the help of the following materials.

·         Cotton Swab

·         Olive Oil

·         Knife

·         Paper Towel

·         Soapy Water

·         Leather Cleaner and Conditioner

Let us do it in 5 simple steps

Step 1

Firstly if the acrylic paint is in wet condition all you have to do is use a cotton swab and try to put it on only paint as you don’t want to spread it and just pluck off the excess paint. But if it is dried then we have to follow other steps.

Step 2

Now just take a clean cloth or paper towel and soak it in olive oil. Now gently rub it on the affected area as gently as possible as you don’t want to scrap it off but your goal is to soften the paint. Try to form a layer of olive oil and put that soaked cloth on the affected area for some time. So the bond between paint and leather gets soft.

Step 3

Now to be more effective make a solution of soap and water. Take some rags and try to wash the affected area with soapy water. You can also use a brush or a sponge to clean the paint off and when you are done with the whole thing, you have to wipe it with a clean cloth.

Step 4

If the Stains are still there standing stubborn the only way left is to scratch the stains gently with a sharp knife, But be careful as if you will press too much you can damage the leather. This method is only recommended as none of the other ways are working so in the end all you have been left with is a sharp knife. After the removal of paint, you can repeat the other steps to ensure the total removal of stains.

Step 5

As you have done lots of cleaning on leather so it can be possible that its shine is lost and looks like an old useless toy. So I recommend you to recondition your shoes with some leather conditioner. This will help to restore the shine and make your leather shoes look new again, or you can use a shoe shine spray. If you are using a brush to clean the shoes, make sure that you are using a soft brush.

Some Important Precautions

·         Don’t use bleach on Leather as it can fade your shoe colour.

·         Do not use acetone on your leather shoes as it can weaken the fibers of your shoe.

·         As acrylic paint is water based so other oily products like vaseline or cooking oil will not work.

·         Be gentle and patient with the process
